With the outbreak of World War I, there was a shortage of small change coins, due to the fact that they are often made from high quality materials (gold, silver, etc.) which was hoarded. This deficiency tried provinces, municipalities, cities and companies to oppose by putting emergency money in circulation. As of 1923, a huge amount of such money was in circulation. The GroBnotgeld was necessary above all in 1918 - this time there were three distinct phases from each of the emissions. The first major bills were needed in the period after the end of World War I, the GroBnotgeld from 1918 - 1921. In this catalog Notgeldausgaben lists of almost 600 distribution points throughout the former German Reich. GroBnotgeld makes especially the face value 100-100 mark - as opposed to the emergency currency notes and coins of higher inflation. The details of the bills and their variants, are brought up to date and fair market values are given, which makes this latest edition a must for any collector of German bank notes and interested laymen. Published in 2010, 608 pages, with black & white illustrations, paperback. WRITTEN IN GERMAN.
